Float position is read relative to a calibrated scale, sight gauge, or through a magnetic coupling connected to an external indicator. As liquid level changes, the float rises or falls, moving an attached rod, tube, or magnet that triggers a switch or moves a pointer, giving an accurate real-time reading of oil level within the tank.

Oil floats to the top of water and most aqueous liquids because it has a lower density. In multi-layer tanks, oil settles above the water layer, which is why float balls designed for oil-water interface detection are engineered to sit precisely at that boundary for accurate level and separation monitoring.

Our float balls are manufactured primarily from 304 stainless steel, with 316 stainless steel available for enhanced corrosion resistance in chemical or marine environments. Both grades offer durability, resistance to rust, and long service life compared to plastic alternatives, making them suitable for oil, fuel, and other industrial liquid applications.
