Float Balls for Sump Pumps

The ball on a sump pump is the float ball — a hollow, buoyant sphere attached to the pump's float switch mechanism. As water rises in the sump pit, the float ball rises with it and triggers the pump to activate. Stainless steel float balls offer superior longevity over plastic versions in wet, corrosive sump environments.

The float on a sump pump detects rising liquid levels and signals the pump to activate. When water reaches a set level, the float rises and triggers the pump switch to begin draining. Once water drops below the threshold, the float descends and shuts the pump off, preventing overflow and protecting the space from water damage.

Round float balls are available in sizes from 1-1/2" up to 14", including 2", 3", 3-1/2", 4", 5", 6", 7", 8", 10", and 12". Oblong floats range from 2x6" to 9x14".
