Float Level Control Valves & Applications

A float switch water level controller uses a float — often a stainless steel float ball with an integrated magnet — to trigger an electrical switch at a set liquid level. When the float rises or falls to a threshold point, it activates or deactivates pumps, alarms, or valves. These are widely used in sump pumps, vacuum tanks, and wastewater treatment systems for automated level management.

Float valves should be installed at the desired liquid level set point within a tank, chamber, or reservoir. The float must have sufficient clearance to move freely up and down with liquid fluctuations. For vacuum tanks and sump pump systems, installation is typically near the top of the chamber to act as a shutoff. Always consider fluid type, pressure, and fitting compatibility when selecting placement.

Our float balls are manufactured from 304 stainless steel, the most commonly used grade, and 316 stainless steel for applications involving corrosive chemicals or harsher environments. Both grades offer excellent corrosion resistance, durability, and longevity compared to plastic alternatives. Other materials are available upon request for specialized applications.

Yes. Float balls are available with a wide range of custom thread specifications including 1/4-20, 3/8-16, 1/4 NPT, 3/8 NPT, 1/2 NPT, 5/8-11 UNC, and 3/4 NPT, among others. Through tube options, hooks, and custom fittings can also be added to integrate the float ball with measurement devices, valve arms, or pump activation systems.

Yes. Pressure testing equipment is available to test all float balls to custom specifications before shipment. This ensures that each unit meets the structural and sealing requirements of your specific application — particularly important in high-pressure industrial environments such as steam traps, vacuum tanks, and chemical processing systems.

Round float balls are available in sizes from 1-1/2" up to 14" in diameter. Oblong floats range from 2x6" to 9x14" with various thread configurations. Both shapes come in matte, brushed, or fully polished mirror finishes. Custom sizes beyond standard inventory can be manufactured to match exact system requirements and dimensional constraints.
