A ball valve is a manually or actuator-operated shut-off device that controls flow through a quarter-turn mechanism. A float switch, by contrast, automatically responds to liquid level changes using buoyancy. Float switches trigger electrical signals or mechanically actuate valves, making them ideal for automated level control and monitoring applications.

A ball float is a hollow, sealed sphere — typically made from stainless steel or plastic — designed to buoy on the surface of a liquid. As liquid levels rise or fall, the float moves accordingly, actuating connected switches, valves, or sensors. Stainless steel ball floats are preferred in industrial, chemical, and food processing environments for superior corrosion resistance.

The two main types are mechanical float switches, which use physical movement to open or close an electrical circuit, and magnetic float switches, which use a magnet inside the float to actuate a hermetically sealed reed switch. Magnetic types are preferred in hazardous or corrosive environments because no direct electrical contact with the liquid occurs.

Our magnetic float balls are manufactured from 304 stainless steel and 316 stainless steel. 304ss is suitable for most industrial and food processing applications, while 316ss offers enhanced corrosion resistance for aggressive chemicals and harsh wastewater environments.
