Float Level Switches for Tanks & Sumps

A float switch is used to automatically monitor and control liquid levels in tanks, sumps, and process vessels. It triggers actions such as activating or deactivating pumps, opening or closing valves, or sending alerts when liquid reaches a high or low threshold. A float level switch operates on the principle of buoyancy. The float, typically a hollow stainless steel ball or oblong shape, sits on the liquid surface and moves vertically as the liquid level changes. To test a float level switch, manually lift or lower the float by hand to simulate rising and falling liquid levels. Verify that the connected switch, pump, or valve activates at the correct setpoint. For pressure-critical applications, use pressure testing equipment to confirm the float's integrity under operating conditions. Always isolate the system before testing.

Float balls are available in 304 stainless steel, which is the most common choice for general industrial use, and 316 stainless steel for applications involving corrosive chemicals or harsh environments. Both grades are offered in matte, brushed, and fully polished mirror finishes. Other materials can be sourced upon request for specialized applications.
